My experience with this location was extremely disappointing and heartbreaking, especially because this involved my 6-week-old puppy, whom I ultimately had to put to rest today.
My puppy had swallowed part of a chew toy, so I contacted this location because it was nearby and accepted walk-ins. I called around 9:30 AM about having her seen, but I ended up waiting approximately four hours before she was finally examined.
Before taking her to this vet, my puppy was eating normally and I had seen absolutely no signs that anything was wrong with her mouth or jaw. There was nothing about her eating or behavior that made me believe she had a serious mouth injury.
When the veterinarian finally saw my puppy, the examination lasted only a few minutes. I was told that she needed an X-ray, and I ended up paying approximately $548 for the visit, including medications that I was told were part of her treatment but, to my understanding, were never actually used on my puppy. I was then told to return before 4 PM to pick her up.
After bringing my puppy home from the vet visit, everything changed. She was no longer eating at home, which was completely different from how she was before the visit. I started giving her the medication I was prescribed, and she eventually did have a bowel movement. However, her health continued to deteriorate rapidly.
I ultimately had to take her to an emergency veterinary clinic. That is where I was told that my puppy’s jaw appeared to be broken and that the injury looked like it may have been present for several days. This was extremely concerning to me because I had taken her to this location specifically to have her examined and to find out what was wrong with her.
What hurts the most is that I was never informed about a possible serious jaw injury during the original visit. The veterinarian spent very little time examining my puppy, and I left believing that the problem had been identified and that I was doing what I needed to do to help her.
Sadly, because of the severity of her condition and the broken jaw, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my puppy to rest today.
As a pet owner, this has been devastating. I trusted this veterinary location to thoroughly examine my puppy and recognize what was wrong with her. Instead, I left feeling that her condition had not been properly evaluated, while also spending hundreds of dollars on the visit.
I am left with serious questions about whether her jaw injury should have been identified during the original examination, especially considering that she was eating normally and showed no obvious signs of a mouth problem before that visit.
I understand that not every medical situation has a perfect outcome, and I am not claiming to know exactly what caused my puppy’s injury. But I do believe pet owners deserve a thorough examination, clear communication, and to be informed about any potentially serious findings.
This experience was heartbreaking, frustrating, and extremely disappointing. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this location. If you are considering bringing your pet here, especially during a medical emergency, please make sure you feel confident that your pet is receiving a thorough examination and that you fully understand what the veterinarian has found and what treatment is being provided.
Dr. Tibbs knows what he’s doing. Hi years of experience are invaluable. The clinic may not be fancy or high tech, but the service is worth it.
I’m always able to get a short term appointment and staff is always friendly and welcoming. Pricing is fair. I’d much rather give my money to this small Black owned business. I have a senior dog who is always having something come up. I’m glad Oakcrest is nearby.
Thank you for your great service Dr. Tibbs and staff.
