Prince Frederick Animal Hospital

We absolutely love PFAH!! We will never take our dogs anywhere else, all of the staff is amazing and you can tell everyone loves our babies as if they were their own. We had a scare with our dog today and they got me in for a last minute, same day appointment within hours of me calling.

I am very disappointed with our recent visit and we will not be returning due to it. From the start when I called the older lady at the front desk was very rude because it had been 2 years since our Rottweiler Angel had been to the vet. This wasn’t because we do not care about our animal, this was because we couldn’t afford the visit but that shouldn’t have even been an issue. Then when we got to the vet this morning our 11 year old senior Rottweiler was nervous and scared which I told them upfront. I brought up our concerns which was that she has back hip issues starting due to her age after the vet asked if we needed anything else besides her nails trimmed and the 2 vaccines. The Vet then proceeded to ask us about doing bloodwork for the hip issues and I stated that we could not afford the extra cost currently but we could bring her back, she responded very rudely saying that oh ok so nails are more important than bloodwork now. I did not respond because that was the most unprofessional thing I have ever heard at a vet office and the difference in pricing between a $20 nail trim and $95-$235 offered blood work is not even comparable. She also was not very gentle during her exam and administering the shots and ended up putting one of the shots in her back hip muscle area to the point she yipped and honestly would have probably ended up biting her if the tech wasn’t holding her tight enough. Our dog is not aggressive but yes if you purposely touch an area that you know hurts, she may end up biting you. The vet then proceeded to inform us she was doing a culture of a small swab out of her ear without asking if we wanted it to be done or telling us that we would be charged $55 for it. When they went to cut her nails the vet called another tech in to help and after the original tech informed her that they had 3-4 people holding her last time, she left the room anyways which only left 2 techs and me and my mother in law who ended up having to help them hold our Rottweiler to cut her nails. Then the Vet came back in and informed us that she had a small ear infection and we could get a $25 medicine for it and I told her that was fine, that’s the only pricing to do with the ear that she informed us of. She was also still trying to push us to do the bloodwork after I had already explained we would bring her back because we couldn’t currently afford it so she pretty much just walked out of the room. The tech ended up offering to do an estimate for the bloodwork so that I could show my husband who was at work during all of this and is also very upset with how his dog and family were treated. My mother in law ended up taking our now overly stressed out and upset Rottweiler out to the car while I checked out. After I got the estimate I proceeded to wait about 20 minutes with absolutely nobody else in the office to be billed out. I was informed on the phone that for the visit it would be $133 for the vaccines and regular visit, with a $20 nail trim and $25 ear medicine that we added is what I was thinking which would be $178. But she told me that it was $235 because she charged us $55 for the ear culture that we did not ask for so I was spending $100 more for a rude and unprofessional visit that left our dog in pain and miserable for the rest of the day. We are very disappointed with how we were treated and the professionalism that we were shown. We would like a full refund due to not even knowing about some of the charges because the vet just decided to do it without asking after being aware we did not have enough to do much extra.

Oh my gosh...this place is AMAZING! I had previously taken my dog VCA in California, Maryland and have had terrible experiences every time I went. Staff isso friendly and helpful, especially the lady the whole way to the left with the short hair. From the time I called to get established with this office to the time I checked out, she was nothing but helpful and seemed to really care about the clients. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Madison. She was thorough, took her time to explain things in detail and was so gentle with my Brew. I never got the tech's name but she was just as wonderful as Dr. Madison. Highly recommend this veterinarian office!!

Just moved to the area and had a rat with post-surgery issues from another vet. They got us scheduled quickly, and sorted her out in no time. Clean bill of health a week later. :)

Everyone there is nice but they do not take their time. My dog gets nervous while at the vet and it is very clear by her actions yet they still rush and do not try to help our pup feel comfortable first. It stinks bc we live so close but I will be trying another vet that hopefully takes their time.
