We switched from another vet to Westminster Veterinary Hospital in May of this year. We were very unhappy where we were, but yet a little anxious about switching to the unknown. Our first visit to Westminster Veterinary Hospital was an ear infection with one of our dogs. That's all it took to impress us and know that we had made the right move. Dr. Stamper was so good with our dog, while explaining everything going on to us. She asked us to bring all our dogs in for an introduction, so she would have a base line for future visits. Our one dog, has a lot of phobias, and one of them is the vet. From the time we walk in the door, until we are back in the car he shakes, trembles and tries to hide. It's always been a struggle for us to take him to the vet because of his fear. The first time Dr. Stamper met him he was hiding behind me trembling. I offered to, so to speak to pull him around to her, and she instructed me not to. She stated that he needs to feel that he has control over the situation and therefore to let him come to her. I thought to myself, good luck with that lady! Well between treats, sweet talk, and being extremely gentle, patient and caring with him, he did make it over to her, and let her do her exam. I was shocked! Since then we have been back to see Dr. Stamper with this dog, and each time he's trembled, and I've never really paid attention to the intensity of the trembles. However, we had to take him back this past Friday for a recheck of his ears, and I noticed something, or should I say, I noticed the lack of something. Our dog was not trembling! His tail was still between his legs, but no trembling and no hiding! It didn't appear to be the same dog that we had brought there in May. He was still timid, but he walked right up to the doctor and let the doctor examine him. Our dog is 5 years old. He's been afraid of the vet since we brought him home at 17 months old, always trembling, hiding, and trying very hard to avoid contact with anyone in the vets office. However this time, was different, and a very pleasant surprise. I will end with saying that we have found the best vet for our dogs. The doctor is always very cost conscience when giving advice on treating problems, and best of all, our dogs are not afraid to go to the vet. They make it a good experience. And when your dog is not terrified it just makes everything better. I highly recommend Westminster Veterinary Hospital.
I called to make an appointment and she asked "how soon can you get here?" ! We were seen the same day. They took the time to really discuss with me everything that was going on with my cat. I always recommend this Vet when people ask!
I had to come back to edit: Jerry (cat in the picture) is on a prescription and a prescription diet. Having never met the surgeon/veterinarian, Jeff, the front desk said that he wanted to talk to me before giving me Jerry's anxiety/uti rx. I honestly figured he was going to "give me a hard time" about the medication. I'm a certified pharmacy technician so I had an inclination that he didn't want to keep prescribing the medication that has really changed Jerry's life. I was so incredibly impressed when he and I spoke. He shared with me that it had been since being in school 30 years ago that he had learned about the medication. Instead of going off what he learned 30 years ago. He did his own research. On his own time, outside of an appointment and then called me again on his own time to discuss Jerry's condition. It's so impressive when an established Veterinarian says "you know what I was in school 30 years ago let's look for new/ updated information"
This should be EXTREMELY reassuring for anyone considering using The Vet practice. I've yet to be disappointed by any staff member. From Kim at the front desk fielding all my annoying questions because we have a house with 6 cats to the techs and the Veterinarians I've been consistently impressed with everyone.
